St. Kitts & Nevis High Commission In London Celebrates Independence With Nationals And Friends

London, UK – 17 September 2015 – On Thursday, 17th September 2015, nationals and friends of St. Kitts and Nevis came together in the British capital to celebrate the 32nd Independence Day of the Federation from the United Kingdom.

Under the auspices of The Very Reverend Dr John Hall, the Dean of Westminster, High Commission representatives, nationals and friends used a celebratory and reflective service to offer prayer for the nation, its leaders and citizens at Westminster Abbey. Nationals from cities near and far throughout showed up in numbers in honour of the Federation.

Following the service, the High Commissioner, His Excellency Dr Kevin Isaac, also hosted a reception at the High Commission where well-wishers congregated to toast the important milestone for the Federation. High Commissioner Isaac used the opportunity to update the St. Kitts and Nevis diaspora in the United Kingdom of new developments at home, including the recent appointment of Sir Tapley Seaton as the Federation’s new Governor-General. He also informed the guests of the new economic initiatives and social programmes that the Federal Government and the Nevis Island Administration are putting in place to propel the Federation forward. He pledged to remain engaged with the diaspora and urged them to become ambassadors for the Federation.

Referencing the theme for the 32nd Independence Day celebrations, High Commissioner Isaac reminded the audience that citizens of the Federation have “a civic duty to make the building of St. Kitts and Nevis the project for the future. So that in the next 32 years, when we, our children or their children look back, we can all say without reservation – we did our part, we fought the good fight and we made St. Kitts and Nevis better, stronger and more united.”

A toast in honour of the 32nd day of Independence of St. Kitts and Nevis was led by the High Commissioner.
