St.Kitts-Nevis Among 12 Nations to Participate in 2016 CBC U16 Basketball Championships for Young Men and Women

The Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Executive Committee announced  that the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation – GABF has been successful in its bid to host the 2016 CBC U16 Championships for Young Men and Women in July 2016.

According to a release by the CBC Executive Committee to date some twelve (12) men and seven (9) women national teams have confirmed their participation. St.Kitts-Nevis is among the teams confirmed along with  Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and the host Guyana in the Men’s Championship. The Women’s Championship will include national teams from Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, and the host Guyana. The Youth Championships was last held in St. John’s, Antigua in 2008 and both the Men and Women Championships winners were the Bahamas.

According to General-Secretary of the St.Kitts and Nevis Amateur Basketball Association Wallis Wilkin the St.Kitts-Nevis Team have not yet begun preparations but will hopefully do so very shortly. The St.Kitts-Nevis squad will likely be made up of players coming from the recently concluded inaugural SKNABA/Ministry of Sports High Schools Championships as well as the ongoing SKNABA J-League. Only players born 2000 and after are eligible to participate.
