BIRD ROCK, May 10th, 2017 (SCASPA) – On Tuesday May 9, 2017, patrons of the St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority’s (SCASPA) Best in Class High School Quiz Competition swarmed the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium for the 7th edition of the annual program which saw six school across St. Kitts contending for the coveted title.

The event was graced with the presence of the Minister of Education and Deputy Prime Minister Honourable Shawn Richards.  Also in attendance was the event’s floor sponsor KosCab, numerous student supporters, teachers, parents, SCASPA officers and Alma-Mater supporters.

The six (6) schools began the journey towards becoming the 2017 SCASPA Best in Class Champions on Tuesday night– Basseterre High, Immaculate Conception Catholic School, Charles E. Mills Secondary, Washington Archibald High, Verchild’s High and Saddlers Secondary.

Students were quizzed on questions that were prepared by a team of educators on curriculum based subject areas such as English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science.  Other categories included Local History and Geography, Current Affairs, SCASPA Affairs and a Wild Round. The students were quizzed individually and as a team. At the end of each round of Competition, the school with the lowest score was eliminated.

After a thrilling, blood-pumping two hour competition, the defending champs Charles E. Mills Secondary School won the first round of the competition with an impressive total of eighty (80) points while the second position team; Saddlers Secondary School scored fifty-five (55) points.

The Basseterre High School trailed closely behind with a total of fifty (50) points, while the Immaculate Conception Catholic School and the Verchilds High School tied in fourth place with thirty-five (35) points. Washington Archibald high School in sixth position with fifteen (15) points was eliminated.

The 7th Annual Best in Class Quiz competition continues with its second round of eliminations on Thursday May 11th, as SCASPA continues in its efforts to raise the company’s profile in the community and generate a greater understanding of and appreciation for SCASPA’s role in national development.

 

Other preliminaries dates are slated for 16th, 18th and the Grand Finale on 25th, May 2017 at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium at 7: 00 p.m. nightly and 8:00 p.m. for the grand finale.
