ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- With the mountain sides still partially stripped of vegetation following the passage of Hurricane Irma on September 6, 2017, heavy rains associated with a tropical wave caused heaps of rocks to come tumbling down on roadways across Tortola, the main island of the Virgin Islands (UK) last night into this morning, October 9, 2017.
Motorists heading to work this morning had to manouvere carefully among the rocks as in some areas Public Works Department workers had not yet reached to clear the roads.
There have been no reports of any accidents, major landslides or injuries up to time of publication.
The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) had reported on its website yesterday, October 8, 2017 that a tropical wave coupled with a deep layer trough would have generated some unsettled weather across the area.
