Basseterre, St. Kitts, October 24, 2015 (SKNIS)—Canada’s Prime Minister-designate, Justin Pierre James Trudeau, has received sincere congratulations on behalf of the Government and People of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis by Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Sylvester Harris.

In a congratulatory letter to Mr. Trudeau, Dr. Harris told Canada’s new leader that his “electoral victory signals the dawn of a new era for the good people of Canada who have voted overwhelmingly on his promise of change and returning a touch of glamour, youth and charisma to Ottawa.”

“The people of Canada desire a fresh start and have entrusted you with the responsibility of leading them unto new heights of progress and prosperity,” Dr. Harris wrote to the son of one of Canada’s most famous and influential prime ministers, Pierre Trudeau, who modernized laws on divorce, homosexuality and abortion.

Mr. Trudeau, who will turn 44 on Christmas Day this year, shot to victory in the stunning federal elections of October 19, with his Canada’s Liberal Party winning 184 of 338 seats in Canada’s House of Commons.

“As you assume your new role as Prime Minister, I wish to affirm to you the commitment of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis to further strengthen the bonds of friendship and trust between our two countries.  I look forward to working with you and your team as I am confident that under your leadership the cooperation between our countries will continue in the same spirit of dialogue and respect,” said Prime Minister Harris, whose Government of National Unity assumed the reins of power onFebruary 16 of this year.

“It is hoped that we can meet in the near future to discuss the deepening of relations between both of our countries,” Dr. Harris said, adding that he wished His Excellency Trudeau every success in his new appointment and the assurances of its highest consideration.
