Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 28, 2017 (RSCNPF): At about 2:35 a.m. November 27, the police received a report of a fire at Haynes Smith Village. They responded and, upon arrival, officers from the St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services were already at the scene extinguishing flames from the northeastern corner of the Labour Constituency Office for Constituency No. 3 which is a wooden structure. The office is used by the constituency representative, Honourable Konris Maynard. The fire was reported by a member of the community who observed smoke coming from a window on the eastern side of the office.
Information received, so far, indicate that the building was last opened sometime in the afternoon of Friday 24, November 2017 and had been closed since. Officers from the Basseterre fire unit forced their way into the northern door of the building in order to extinguish some of the flames and to assess damages. The inside portion, where majority of the smoke emanated, was damaged severely. Several red t-shirts were damaged, along with two (2) air conditioning units and two (2) eastern glass windows.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
