Maurice Glenford Cole, age 76, died peacefully at his home in Conley, Georgia on December 26, 2019 following a brief illness. He was born in Brick Kiln Village, St. James’ Parish, Nevis, to Norman and Frederica Cole, who preceded him in death. 

Maurice was always a good student, and he went on to study at the Regional Police Training Center in Barbados, West Indies, where he excelled in all of his subjects. He was later assigned as a Police Constable to The Royal St. Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla Police Force at its headquarters in Basseterre, St. Kitts. He was often known for challenging his superiors, and after a particular incident, was immediately transferred to the police station in the town of Sandy Point, where he first met his now wife Lindley.

Upon leaving the police force in 1969, Maurice immigrated to New York City, where he raised his family, gained a degree in management and soon entered the field of commodities trading with Continental Grain Company, where he spent the next 28 years, first as a supervisor in the positions department and moving on to Assistant Manager in Contracts and Gross Profit Analysis. When Continental merged with their rival company, Cargill, in 1999, he took a short break then joined Calamos Investments of Naperville, Illinois before retiring in 2006. He moved and settled in Conley, Georgia, where he is known by his neighbors to have one of the best looking yards in the entire subdivision. At the time of his death, he and his wife were dedicated members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Atlanta, Georgia.

Maurice is survived by: his wife of 23 years, Lindley; daughters, Ayanna and Larissa (Raymond); sons, Kwami (Kimra) and Dwight (Sandra); step-children, Christopher and Marie (Tony); sisters, Floretta (Allison), Janice (Normus) and Lynette (Henry); brothers, Ronald (Audrey Marie), Clemson (Audrey) and Andy; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, godson, Sean; mother-in-law, Elaine; brother-in-law, Ulester; other brothers-in-law and sister-in-law; and many other family and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Maurice Cole will be held at 2:00 pm on January 17, 2020 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 435 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30308. (404) 873-7600. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the St. Luke’s Rector, Warden Vestry Fund, dedicated to the Music ministry, The Order of the Daughters of the King or the Flower Guild.
