Sandy Point PRIDEKINGS (4-0) steamrolled the Cotton Ground Rebels by 27 points on Saturday night, winning 63-36. Despite rolling into Nevis on a three-game winning streak, the PRIDEKINGS had a lousy start to the game. During the first 12 minutes, the lions committed a number of unforced errors and missed all four of their attempts from behind the arc.
“It’s not going to be pretty every night,” Coach Rameece Belboda said. “Our last game we played was kind of pretty. There’s certain teams it’s going to be ugly and we knew that coming in with this team. But it shows a lot about the character of the team to be able to pull out a win like this early in the season.”
The fact they did this in two very different ways against two teams, in the Ghetto Roots and the Rebels, with totally different styles, has given team captain Taslin Dont-Cheat Hodge-who sat out Saturday’s game and his teammates an unexpected jolt of confidence as they head into their June 4th matchup vs the Ghaut Bucs.
As has been the case many times throughout the season, Cha Vez Belboda (21 points 10 of 18), and veteran front court player Jazbu Troy Wattley (11 points 8 rebounds), led the way by scoring a combined 32 points and hitting several key shots to the game out of reach. The young energetic lions Chavez and Secada Cada Garroden (11 rebounds 3 blocks) continues to set the tone for the rest of their teammates to follow during games, with the older slate of players collectively and repeatedly providing a veteran voice off the floor that both their teammates and coaches respect. A perfect combination as the KINGS continue to march forward!
