Nevis Island Administration Contracts Services of 3rd Obstetrician/Gynaecologist

Dr. Ana María Acuña Adán

Effective Monday 22nd February 2016, the Ministry of Health acquired the services of another Obstetrician/Gynaecologist in the person of Dr. Ana María Acuña Adán. Dr. Acuña Adán will be attached to the Alexandra Hospital, and will also facilitate high risk obstetrics clinics at Community Health Centres.

Dr. Acuña Adán has over 36 years of experience in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology. She also has extensive teaching experience, having served as a professor at various nursing and medical schools. She has also served on other overseas missions including postings in Angola and Guatemala.

The Ministry of Health takes the opportunity to thank the government of Cuba for making Dr. Acuña Adán ‘s presence on Nevis a reality. We also thank the Cuban government for providing several other medical professionals over the years.

Minister of Health Hon. Mark Brantley commented on the recent appointment and indicated “Nevis now has employed directly to the Government some 19 medial practitioners covering the gamut from ER/General Practitice, General Surgery, Anesthesiology, Oral Surgery, Obstetrics and Gyneology, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Psychiatry and Orthropedic Surgery.”

Brantly continued,  “In addition, the island has some significant partnerships with medical professionals who visit regularly to provide care to our citizens. These include Dr Jeffery Liburd, Neurosurgeon, Dr Dwayne Thwaites, Urologist, Drs Ronnie Cooper and Debbie Huggins, Dermatalogists, Dr Erole Hobdy, Oncologist, Drs Raymonde Hubbe, David Weiss, Phillip Mc Kingley, Jeffrey Benner, Peter Foote, Theodore Ingis, Stephen Thompson and Joyce Mbekeani, Opthamalogists, Dr Spencer Amory, Surgeon, Dr Evans Valerie, Paediatric Surgeon and Dr Charlie Rouse, Cardiologist.”
