Basseterre, St.Kitts (Janaury 23rd, 2018) Attorney-General Hon. Vincent J Byron Jr. has announced that a case has been filed in the Court regarding the eligibility of the Leader of the Opposition Dr. Denzil Douglas to sit in the National Assembly as a member.  AG Byron announced a series of actions that led to the filing of an application to the High Court seeking declarations that the Leader of the Opposition is no longer eligible to continue sitting as a Representative in the National Assembly, and that he should be required to vacate his seat.

Dr. Douglas, who arrived late to the proceedings, responded to the announcement in his personal explanations and proceeded to present in a manner that was seen as unparliamentary by Hon Speaker A Micheal Perkins. Despite numerous warnings from Speaker Perkins the Opposition Leader continued along the same line and as a result was suspended and ejected from the Parliament after Speaker Perkins applied section 49-2 of the Parliamentary rules and regulations.
