Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis and Political Leader of the People’s Labour Party (PLP), Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris along with Deputy Political Leader and Minister Hon. Akilah Byron-Nisbett were Today (Tuesday March 23rd, 2021) updated on the plans to stage this weekends 4th PLP Peoples Labour Party Convention 2021 on St.Kitts . The event will be held under very strict COVID-19 protocols at the Ottleys Playing Field on Saturday March 27th at 4pm.

A decision was made by the party’s executive to once again hold this year’s convention in two separate sessions. The private session for the party delegates will be held on Friday March 26th at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel at 6pm.

The last Party convention was held in 2019 as the 2020 event had to be canceled due to COVID-19. Since the 2019 Convention the party has grown at a phenomenal rate both in terms of membership and relevance and significance. The Party now boasts two MPs in Political Leader and Deputy Political Leader Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris and Hon. Akilah Byron-Nisbett respectively . It has also seen significant growth in membership, especially among young people . The metoric growth of the party has earned the relatively new political organization as the fastest growing political party in the Caribbean region . The party’s New and innovative approach to politics in St.Kitts-Nevis and the Caribbean has made it the most appealing new political entity in the region attracting thousands who have simply had enough of the “same old!”

“Since our last convention in 2019 We have seen a phenomenal increase in the number of young people who have shown interest in the party itself. The recent 2020 elections showed the presence and significance of the young people who were drawn to the dynamism and vibrancy of the PLP and its leadership. They want to be a part of this movement that is showing so much power and empowerment to all these young people within St. Kitts and Nevis, and so it is that sort of youthful vibrance and energy that we are expecting this Saturday at the 2021 Convention in Ottleys, “ said Deputy Political Leader of the PLP Hon. Akilah Byron-Nisbett .

The PLP Deputy Political Leader said they are expecting a diverse audience at Saturday’s public session, including leadership of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and the Nevis-based Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), which are the two other parties that came together along with the PLP to form the Team Unity Government.

Minister Byron-Nisbett added that the coming together of members of the three political parties is a true representation of unity that now exists throughout the entire Federation.

“On Saturday we are going to see an energy and a coming together of not just a party but a coalition showing a strong movement towards the continued building of our Federation at a level that we’ve never seen before – the removal of all the divisiveness and just the continued coming together of the people which is what PLP continues to push and encourage,” she said.

The public session of the People’s Labour Party’s 4th National Convention commences at 4pm. It will be held under the theme, “TOGETHER: Empowering and Uniting People; Rebuilding our Economy”
