NORMAN ISLAND, VI – While Peter Island Resort and Spa was closing its doors and sending home staff, next door Norman Island was re-opening its doors to guests some three months after Hurricane Irma ravaged the Virgin Islands.
The private island, owned by Dr Henry G. Jarecki, is one that is always on the radar for tourists and recently completed the re-construction of one of two restaurants.
Reopening for business, pleasure, food and more is one of the most popular tourist spots in the Virgin Islands (British), Pirates Bight Restaurant and Bar, on Sunday December 10, 2017.
The occasion will be highlighted with a Caribbean buffet and music by Final Faze.
Tourists react
While a direct comment from the management has not been forthcoming, patrons and persons close to the establishment have been fanning the “Norman Island reopened” flames. “I have been visiting that island for over 20 years. I come to the BVI very often and stopping at Norman Island is always a must for me,” a Resident of St Thomas, who gave his name only as Captain Mike, told this news site.
“I look forward to seeing persons like Sherleene, Dillon, Oral, Angel and so many of the waitresses that make the stopover at Norman Island worth the while and not to forget the food. Their meals are the best anywhere, talk about Oral’s Jambalaya and those onion rings and calamari, my goodness,” added Captain Mike.
This news site understands that since the passage of the hurricanes, the local management team headed by Ms Jessica Blackman went into full re-construction gear.
While attempts to contact Ms Blackman were futile, it is our understanding that the full complement of staff is not yet back on the job as only one of the restaurants is currently in operation. But it’s said that those staff members at home have been informed that they are likely to be back to work as soon as the bigger restaurant is completed.
“My understanding is that it will be done either by the end of December or January,” an at home employee said.
