BASSETERRE (10th January, 2019): St. Kitts Tourism Authority in collaboration with the Christophe Harbour Development will celebrate the yachting sector, with two major yachting events in January. Moving forward, the month of January will be branded as “Yachting Time” to raise awareness of yachting activities in the destination.

Caribbean Crew Fest will be held 16th-19th January, and The Panerai Transat Classique is scheduled to take place  22nd– 26th January, 2019. The two events  have been dubbed as “Yachting Time” and are promoted as events for the entire family to attend at the Christophe Harbour Marina.

Caribbean Crew Fest is a yachting workshop for captains and crew members of super yachts. For three days, crew members will experience an array of activities that consist of workshops, onboard sessions and social activities. Last year, during its 3rd edition, over 150 crew members were hosted by Christophe Harbour, and they are currently expecting between 200-250 crew members for the 2019 Caribbean Crew Fest.

Additionally, on Tuesday 8th January 2019, for the first time ever 20 classic sail boats will depart from the Canary Islands and travel nearly 3,000 miles to St. Kitts in a yacht challenge called The Panerai Transat Classique 2019. Sail boats are expected to arrive two weeks later and will be docked at the Christophe Harbour Marina from 22nd– 26th January 2019. Themed events and activities will occur during this time as locals will be invited to visit the Christophe Harbour Marina for FREE.

Minister of Tourism, The Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant, said that premiere yachting events such as Caribbean Crew Fest and The Panerai Transat Classique 2019 are key events that can grow the yachting sub sector, which will yield considerable benefits for the Federation.

“These two events place the spotlight on our yachting sector, and will attract  more yachting business to our destination,” Minister Grant said. “We envisioned that our yachting sector will generate new opportunities for full participation and investment by nationals and local communities in the production and delivery of goods and services, as well as providing careers, decent work, and sound livelihoods for residents.”

A strong yachting sector has the potential to create local jobs and support countless local businesses, producing compelling economic benefits for local persons within the federation.

Chief Executive Officer of the St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Racquel Brown, said that the SKTA will host journalists from prominent international publications such as Departures, Yachts International, Fodor, and the Evening Standard.

“Having these journalists on island who write specifically to the discerning traveler, will raise the awareness that St. Kitts is an emerging yachting and lifestyle destination, and drive more yachts to the island,” CEO Brown said.

Chief Executive Officer of Christophe Harbour, Charles P. “Buddy” Durby III, stated that he is honored to host such a prestigious event in partnership with race organizers, the Atlantic Yacht Club and Officine Panerai.

“Not only will we host some of the world’s most beautiful classic sailing yachts, we also anticipate 200+ elite guests, including yacht owners and guests, captains, crew and some of the world’s most influential yachting media in attendance throughout the event. This exposure will certainly be a boon for Christophe Harbour and the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis as we share our destination with the world on an unprecedented scale.” Darby said.

During the following weeks all are asked to pay special attention to the Faces of St. Kitts Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as our eblasts, to learn more about all activities surrounding Caribbean Crew Fest and the Panerai Transat Classique 2019.
